Turkish Journal of Geriatrics is a peer-reviewed journal and is devoted to high standards of scientific rules and publication ethics. The Editorial Board of the Journal accepts to follow "Editorial Policy" of the "Council of Science Editors" ( www.councilscienceeditors.org/). Any article published in the journal is also published in electronic format and is shown at http://www.geriatri.org. Instructions to authors are based on the report of International Committee of Medical Journal Editors-2007 "Uniform Requirements for manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals" (www.icmje.org).
INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
Turkish Journal of Geriatrics is an official publication of Turkish Geriatrics Society and is published four times a year. Official languages of the journal are Turkish and English. Turkish Journal of Geriatrics invites submission of Original Articles based on clinical and laboratory studies, Review Articles including up to date published material, Original Case Reports, Letters to the Editor and News and Announcements of congress and meetings concerning all aspects of Geriatrics, Aging and Gerontology and related fields.
Manuscripts should be prepared according to the instructions to authors and submitted online via www.geriatri.org. Online Manuscript Submission needs to Create an Account link.

Manuscripts should not exceed 20 double-spaced typed pages, including figures, tables, and reference list and references are to be limited to 25.
Authors are also advised to keep a full copy of their papers for reference. As it is the responsibility of all authors to agree on the content of their paper before submission, all manuscripts must be signed by each author.
Papers that are sent to Turkish Journal of Geriatrics must be prepared according to the INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS. Otherwise the "peer review procedure" cannot be started.
Our journal should be cited as: "Turkish Journal of Geriatrics".
Preparation of Manuscript
Papers must be written in Turkish or English. For the papers written in English, authors whose mother language is not English should have their papers checked for linguistic accuracy by a native English speaker.
The manuscript should be prepared with margins of at least 2.5 cm (1 inch). Use double spacing throughout begin each of the following sections on a separate page: title page, abstract and key words, text, acknowledgments, references, tables, and legends. Number pages consecutively, beginning with the title page. The page number should be in the lower right corner of each page.
The text of observational and experimental research articles should be divided into sections with the headings Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion. Long articles may need subheadings within some sections (especially the Results and Discussion sections) to clarify their content. Case reports should also have the title page, abstract and keywords, introduction, case report and discussion. Other types of articles, such as reviews and editorials are likely to take their own relevant main headings.
Title Page. The title page should contain the following: 1)the title of the article which should be both in English and Turkish, 2) full names and last name of each author with highest academic degrees, 3) names of department(s) and institution(s) where the work was carried out 4) the full postal and e-mail address of the author responsible for correspondence regarding the manuscript.
Abstract. An informative abstract of not more than 200 words both in Turkish and English must accompany each manuscript. Only articles from "abroad" written in English are not obliged to have Turkish abstracts or keywords. Turkish version of the title, abstracts or keywords will be prepared by the editorial office of the journal. Abstract must be "structured" and include data on problem (background), materials and methods, results and conclusion. New and important observations or aspects of the study should be emphasized. Abstracts of the review articles should be a brief overview of all the main points from the review.
Key words. Up to six key words should be provided that might be used by researchers searching bibliographic databases for the paper. Always try to use terms from the Medical Subjects Headings list from Index Medicus. ( www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html)
Introduction. Acquaint the readers with the problem and with the findings of others. Quote the most pertinent papers and state clearly the nature and purpose of the work.
Materials and Method. Your clinical, technical or experimantal procedures should be clearly explained. Previously published papers related to methods should be cited.
Results. Findings must be described without comment. A concise textual desciption of the data presented in tables, chats and figures should also be included.
Discussion. Comment on your findings and relate them to those from previous other authors. You should define their relevance to experimental research or clinical practice.
References. The author is responsible for the accuracy of the references. Citations in the text should be identified by numbers in brackets. The list of the references at the end of the paper should be given according to their first appearance in the text, listing all authors and using journal abbreviations as listed in Index Medicus.

Tables. Tables should be supplement not duplicate the text. Each table should be typed (double spaced) on a separate sheet and numbered consecutively with arabic numerals. Place explanatory matters in footnotes. Footnotes to tables should be indicated by lower-case superscript letters. Each table must be cited in the text in consecutive order.
Illustrations. Illustrations should be limited to those essential for the text. The same results should be presented as either graphs or tables not as both. All figures, whether photographs, graphs, or diagrams, should be numbered consecutively and kept separately from the main text. The publisher reserves the right to reduce or enlarge illustrations. Arrows, letters, and numbers should be inserted professionally. If this is not possible, inscriptions should be made on a transparent overlay (not on the actual photograph). Micrographs should have an internal magnification marker; the magnification should also be stated in the caption. Legends must be brief, self-sufficient explanations of the illustrations in no more than four or five lines. Remarks such as "For explanation, see text" should be avoided. The legends should be typed on a separate page.
Case reports. Should consist of the following: abstract, key words, introduction, report of the case, conclusion and references.
Review articles will be invited by the editorial board. Authors should take their own relevant main headings.
Copyright release forms and approval of ethics committee A copyright release form signed by "all" authors and a copy of the approval of ethics committee, must be posted simultaneously to the address shown in brackets (Assoc. Prof. Dilek ASLAN MD, Hacettepe University Medical School Department of Public Health, 06100 Sıhhiye-Ankara).
Submissions received without signed copyright forms and a copy of the "approval of ethics committee" cannot be sent out for review.
Checklist for Submitted Articles:
Articles must be complete. They must include the following:
- Letter of Submission
- E-mail address as well as postal address, telephone and fax number for corresponding author
- Affiliations of all authors
- Address for offprint requests
- Electronic copy on disk
- Signed copyright transfer form (must be posted simultaneously)
- Approval of ethics committee( must be posted simultaneously)
- Turkish and English heading
- All figures (with legends) and tables (with titles) cited
- Abstract (200 words)
- Keywords (up to 6)
- Article divided into appropriate sections
- Complete and accurate references and citations
- All references cited in text by numbers in brackets (Max 25)
- List of references styled according to "journal requirements"
- Article carefully checked by physician whose mother language is English
Manuscripts lacking any of the above elements will be rejected from the production process.
The ethical responsibilities of the articles belong to the writers. If the editorial board finds necessary, the admitted articles will be reviewed by the ethical advisors of the journal. Authors submitting an article must accept this situation.
