A STUDY OF THE HOME ACCIDENTS AND THE REASONS OF ACCIDENTS FOR THE PEOPLE OF 65 YEARS AND OVER, LIVING IN OVACIK DISTRICT OF KIRIKKALE

Hacettepe Üniversitesi, Ev Ekonomisi Yüksek Okulu Ev Ekonomisi Bölümü, Ankara This study has been planned and conducted to determine the home accidents, and the reasons of the accidents for the people of 65 years old and over, living in Ovacık district of Kırıkkale. The research has been conducted on 137 people of 65 years old and over. The questionnaires, pertaining to determination of the home accidents and their reasons, have been applied to the individuals. In the research, it has been found out that 27.7 % of the individuals aged 65 and over had home accidents during the last one year. It has also been concluded that the number of accidents increased with aging (p<0.001), the women had more accidents than men (p<0.05), and the people living alone had more home accidents compared to the others (p<0.001). The first ranking accident among the people of 65 years old is falling, and the primary reason given for the accident is the absence of the handlebars in the bathrooms.
