EVALUATION OF ELDERLY LIVING AT HOME AND REST HOUSE

Elderly, is a biological process seen in whole individuals. Protection of homeostasis in individuals is decreased due to time factor. Public health has an important role in the protection of physical, social and physiologic health in elderly people. The aim of this study was to examine physical, social and physiologic health in geriatrics living in different conditions such as at home and rest home in Turkish population and to estimate the importance of protective rehabilitation approaches of public health in geriatrics. This study included 50 subjects living in the rest home. The mean ages of subjects were 71.21 ± 2.01, living in the rest home; 50 subjects whose ages ranged between 65 and 85 and whose mean ages were 70.24 ± 1.98, living in home. Education and occupation status, systemic diseases, physiologic conditions, smoke and drink conditions, functionality in daily living, the frequency of falling in one month period, balance conditions, evaluation of their free periods of subjects were examined. According to our results; geriatrics lived in home and rest homes have difficulties physically, socially and physiologically. Especially it was reported that geriatrics lived in rest home had physiological difficulties. Keywords : Elderly, Protective Rehabilitation, Public Health, Daily Living Activities
