THE CONCEPT OF “SUPERCENTENARIAN” WITH A CASE REPORT

Karaman Devlet Hastanesi, Fiziksel Tıp ve Rehabilitasyon Bölümü KARAMAN "Centenarian" and "supercentenarian" are new terms used for individuals who have reached the ages of 100 and 110, respectively. The global increase in life expectancy and the number of elderly people have put geriatric cases into the center of many studies. Detailed investigation of centenarians and supercentenarians who maintain physical, social and psychological wellness and who live independently despite their older age, will shed light on future studies regarding the health challenges, the social and functional lives, the quality of life and similar factors in geriatric cases. In the present study, the terms of "centenarian" and "supercentenarian", rarely encountered in national literature, were studied in light of the findings from a 111 year old patient who was able to maintain her quality of life.
