Hakan BOZKUŞ, Ali Çetin SARIOĞLU
VKV Amerikan Hastanesi, Nöroşirurji Departmanı-İstanbul The aim of this article is to review of the literature and our experience for elderly patient (above 65 ages) with subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Although aneurysm is the most frequent cause of SAH in this age group, the others are arteriovenous malformation, tumor, and hemorrhagic diatesis. Age is one of prognostic indicator of poor outcome after SAH. The morbidity and mortality after SAH is associated to other factors. These are neurological status at admission, preexisting medical condition and the findings on computed tomography. The current treatment strategy is evaluation of etiological causes of disease, prevention of complications (pre and postoperative) and treatment on appropriate time.
