Background and Aim: Breast cancer is the first known cause of cancer related deaths of female patients in geriatric age group. In this group of patients, mammography has the most important effect in the early diagnosis. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the findings of mammography and ultrasonography in women patients 65 years old and above.

Materials and Method: In the imaging center of Ankara Numune Research and Training Hospital, the reasons for ordering and the findings of imaging for mammography and ultrasonography were investigated retrospectively within one year in 581 women patients 65 years old and above.

Results: 415 patients were undergoing mammography and ultrasonography before receiving hormonal replacement treatment in the postmenopausal period. None of the patients in this group had findings of malignancy.

47 patients did not have any previous clinical or radiological breast examination and were being examined only with the preliminary diagnosis of mass in the breast. 30 out of 47 patients masses with malignant features were observed which was also confirmed by pathological examination.

36 patients admitted with the complaint of mastalgia; except for one patient, did not have any significant pathology that would explain the mastalgia by mammographically and ultrasonographically.

Conclusion: There are limited epidemiological studies on breast cancer among 65 years of age and above. Our findings can be considered as there were no cases of malignancy among 415 patients above the age of 65 which can be accepted as screening. These findings have to be supported with future studies.
