INFECTIVE ENDOCARDITIS IN ELDERLY

Zonguldak Karaelmas Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Kardiyoloji Anabilim Dalı, ZONGULDAK Infective endocarditis (IE) in the elderly is increasingly frequent due to especially health care-associated invasive procedures, prostetic heart valves and degenerative valve sclerosis which are more common among elderly. A gastrointestinal source of infection has been described more commonly and group D Streptococci associated with colonic disease, are an increasingly frequent cause of IE in elderly patients. Atypical presentations may lead to delayed diagnosis and older age has been suggested to be associated with poor outcome. Keywords : Infective endocarditis; Aged
