Atatürk Göğüs Hastalıkları ve Göğüs Cerrahisi Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Göğüs Cerrahisi Kliniği ANKARA Hydatid disease is a serious health problem which is encountered frequently in Turkey and some other Mediterranean countries. Hydatid cysts are located most frequently in the liver and lung with primary inoculation. Both lung and liver hydatid cysts are still an important public health problem in our country. Another way of inoculation other than primary infection is spreading of protoscolexes which become free after the rupture of the current hydatid cyst, via hematogenous lymphatic and direct transdiaphragmatic route. While the disease is usually asymptomatic various symptoms can be seen depending on the localization and the dimension of the current cyst. In this paper, a case with a huge lung hydatid cyst presented with nonspecific chest pain and symptoms of vena cava superior syndrome has been presented.
