The dynamic and static components in benign prostatic hyperplasia cause the infravesical obstruction and related lower urinary tract symptoms. Nowadays, there are two main treatment modalities as medical and surgical for benign prostate hyperplasia. Alpha blockers and 5-• reductase inhibitor drugs have been the most favorite agents in the medical treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia. Alpha 1 adrenoceptor antagonists are an important medical option in the management of lower urinary tract symptoms. These agents reduce smooth muscle tone in the prostate and lower urinary tract by inhibiting sympathetic alpha 1 adrenoceptor stimulation, thereby relaxing the bladder outlet and improving urinary flow. In this article the use of alpha-receptor blocker drugs have been summarized. Keywords : Prostate; Prostatic Hyperplasia; Adrenergic Alpha-Antagonist
