Materials and Method: The sensory organization test (SOT) results, balance scores and sensory analysis and strategy analysis results were evaluated by using computerized dynamic posturography between November 2004 and November 2009.
Results: The mean age of a total of 143 individuals (78 female and 65 male) was 73.1±4.69 (range 65 to 84 years). Of the 143 individuals evaluated, the SOT results of 92 (64.3%) were found to be abnormal. The sensory analysis results revealed visual, visual vestibular and vestibular weakness. In strategy analysis, use of ankle strategy was found to be abnormal.
Conclusion: Visual, visual-vestibular and vestibular weakness was found to be frequent among elderly people with balance problems. We think this is an important result in terms of vestibular and balance rehabilitation.
