THE EFFECT OF SPORTS TO THE PYHSIOLOGICAL FUNCTION LOSS IN THE ELDERLY

Akdeniz Üniversitesi, Tıp Fakültesi, Aile Hekimliği Anabilim Dalı, Antalya Besides other preventive measures physical activity has been addressed as health target because of its quality of life enhancing and primary preventive role. Aging which begins in adolescence is a life-long continuing process. Changes of organ systems due to aging do not effect physical functions of the body, but the spare capacities of the organs. Sports may effect changes of aging in cardiovascular system, muscles and bones and mental condition. Regular physical exercise may prevent or decrease physiological function loss due to aging. There evidence that elderly develop adaptation to endurance and strength training. Endurance training may improve cardiovascular function and strength training may prevent sarcopenia and strength loss.
