DRUG INTERACTIONS IN ELDERLY AND CLINICAL IMPORTANCE

Antihypertensives, antihiperlipidemics , antidepressants, antiaggregating agents, antidiabetics, non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs with antacids, antipsychotics and antiepileptics are the most frequently and regularly utilized drug groups which may interact with each other and other drugs and certain foods and beverages. Among these agents, warfarin has particular priority as any decrease or increase in its metabolism may have serious clinical outcomes such as bleeding or recurrence of thrombotic event. This article deals with the most clinically important and prevalent drug interactions in the elderly patients. Keywords : Drug interactions in the elderly patients
