Kırıkkale Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi, Göz Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı - KIRIKKALE To describe the post-operative visual acuity and thereby the improved quality of life in the patients who had undergone cataract surgery and intraocular lens implantation due to age-related cataract, To 106 eyes of 93 patients, diagnosed as senil cataract, an extracapsular cataract extraction and posterior chamber lens implantation surgery was performed by the same surgeon. The postoperative visual acuity and better performance of daily routine activities were evaluated separately for each patient. Of the patients 54 were men and 39 were women among whom the youngest was 43 whereas the eldest was 89 and the average age was 65.8. The corrected visual acuities were determined as at the intervals of 0.1-0.3, 0.4-0.7, 0.8-1.0 in 2 cases (1.88%), 57 eyes (53.7%) and 46 eyes (43.3%) respectively. Ali of the patients, except two, stated that they could better perform their daily routine activities after the surgery. This study regarding the visual acuity following the cataract extraction realized by intraocular lens implantation indicates that the modern cataract surgery Irrespective of the extraction technique used is a procedure providing an excellent visual acuity yet not totally free of complication.
