Local skin necrosis after extravasation injury is a distressing situation that can easily occur and may cause severe aesthetic and functional problems. It is of growing importance to become acquainted with the toxicities of these biological agents as they are increasingly used for cancer therapy. Consequences of extravasation injury vary in degree from local irritation to skin necrosis depending on the drug administered. The drugs that may cause extravasation injury are classified regarding their tissue irritation mechanisms. This classification is helpful to decide for the treatment procedure. Despite the several treatment options, the management of such lesions is still controversial. Geriatric patient population and cancer patients are risk groups for this type of injury. In this paper, the classification of extravasative drugs, and the treatment options were discussed.
