Materials and Method: Seventy patients (30 female, 40 male) and a control group of 40 healthy subjects (20 female and 20 male) were included in this study. “Hoehn-Yahr” scale for staging the disease and the “Parkinson's Disease Sleep Score (PDSS)” scale for the assessment of sleep disorders were used.
The average age of patient group is (67.28±9.32), was not different from the control group (64.4±9.42). PDSS was significantly lower in patients (87.23±33.71) than controls (140.32±11.15) (p<0.0001). There was not significant difference for TUS between patients who were treated with dopamine agonists. There was not significant difference in the PDSS-TUS for diskinesia (p=0.079). There was a significant difference for PDSS-TUS for postural disorder and bradymimia (p=0.023 and p=0.005 respectively). In patients with advanced stage Parkinson's disease, PDSS was found significantly higher (59.31±26.23) than in mild stage patients (95.66±31.23) (p<0.0001).
Conclusion: It is neccessary to take a detailed history of sleep and to detect the sleep disorder in patients with advanced stage of Parkinson's disease. Some symptoms as bradymimia and postural disorders can be warning sign for sleep disorder.
