SUCCESFUL TREATMENT OF AN OLDER PATIENT'S CHRONIC MESENTERIC ISCHEMIA WITH STENT
1 Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi İç Hastalıkları Anabilim Dalı AYDIN2 Adnan Menderes Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Radyoloji Anabilim Dalı AYDIN Chronic mesenteric ischemia (CMI) is an unusual but important cause of abdominal pain. Intestinal ischaemia is caused by a reduction in intestinal blood flow. The cause of CMI include variety of conditions such as athersclerosis (more than 90%), celiac artery compression syndrome, fibrovascular dysplasia, takayasu's arteritis, thromboangiitis obliterans, radiation-induced vascular injury, mesenteric venous thombosis (cause of heritable disorders of coagulation, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, cirrhosis, portal hypertension, paraneoplastic disorders, postoperative states, trauma). Selective angiography is considered the gold standard for establishing the diagnosis of CMI. In this report a case of chronic mesenteric ischemia of an older women who had symptoms of abdominal angina was presented. An aortic angiogram revealed a significant ostial stenosis (up to 70%) of the celiac artery associated with an occlusion of the superor mesenteric artery. Stent implantation for ostial stenosis of the celiac artery was performed. Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty/stent for treatment of mesenteric arterial stenoses should be effective in the treatment with symptoms and angiographic findings characteristic of CMI.
