3Dr. Suat Seren Göğüs Hastalıkları ve Cerrahisi Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi Göğüs Cerrahisi İZMİR Introduction: The erectile dysfunction and its correlation with clinical and laboratory values were investigated in patients with the diagnosis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).
Material and Methods: 50 cases with respiratory insufficiency of COPD included in this study. Age, smoking habit, duration of disease guestionned. Blood gas analysis, hormonal parameters, pulmonary function test, body pletismography, carbonmonoxide diffusion test performed to all cases. Erectile function scored after these procedures.
Results: Erectile dysfunction detected in 86% of cases. There was a relationship between the levels of forced expiratory volume in 1 second and International Index of Erectile Function. International Index of Erectile Function has reduced direct proportionally as FEV1 level decreased. Erectile function scores increased as peak expiratory flow value increased. In our cases a positive correlation between pH and International Index of Erectile Function and a negative correlation between pCO2 and International Index of Erectile Function; a positive correlation between pO2 and saturation were found.
Conclusion: Erectile dysfunction was frequently observed in our cases with COPD. Erectile dysfunction has increasingly impaired as the stage of COPD worsened and virtually all of our subjects with COPD suffered from varying degrees of erectile dysfunction.
