SOCIODEMOGRAPHIC STATUS AND NUTRITION CHOICE OF ELDERLY LIVING IN NURSING HOME IN ISPARTA AND BURDUR

Introduction: Nutrition is an important matter for all ages. It is more important elderly who live in nursing home. In this study, it was aimed to determine sociodemographic status and nutrition choice of elderly who live in nursing home in Isparta and Burdur.

Materials and Method: Sociodemographic status and nutrition choice of total 127 elderly lived in nursing home in Isparta and Burdur was determined by a questionnaire. All of the older people lived in nursing home and participated in the survey. The questionnaire form was filled by face to face interviewing method.

Results: There were 66 men (51.9 %) and 61 women (48.1 %) in nursing home, whose average age was 66.43±7.31. Most of the elderly consumed food three times a day. Mostly preferred food was meat (88.1%). Few number of elderly prefered to eat vegetables (40.1%).

Conclusion: According to the results, no difference in sociodemographic status in Isparta and Burdur was found. From nutrition perspective; staff in both nursing homes pay attention to Consume basic food. It can be concluded that they have a dietician control and food to elderly as their need.
