IS MILD COGNITIVE IMPAIRMENT AN EARLY ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE?
Gazi Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi Nöroloji Anabilim Dalı ANKARA Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a boundary or transitional state between normal aging and early dementia particularly Alzheimer's disease (AD) characterised by memory impairment or other cognitive deficits have been reported but preserved activities of daily living. MCI as a possible prodromal stage of dementia. Little is known about factors that predict transition from MCI to dementia. This clinical state construct was developed to characterize older adults who were neiter cognitively normal nor overtly demented. It is a term generally referring to persons who do not fulfil criteria for AD or dementia.

It is not an established clinical diagnosis but a concept for which different criteria have been proposed and also modified over time. But who exibit some form of cognitive impairment.

We discussed in this paper clinical, neuroimaging, biomarkers, neuropathological property and therapy of the MCI in the current literature are consistent with this position. Keywords : Mild cognitive impairment, Elderly, Evaluation
